OMS Community 21 Days Omumu Fast
The OMS Community 21 Days Omumu Fast is a recurring community spiritual practice designed to encourage reflection, discipline, cleansing, intentional living, and preparation for new blessings. Beginning in 2027, this practice will take place twice each year, aligned with the two annual equinoxes, and will be open to members of OMS community and Odinani practitioners around the world who wish to participate.
The word Omumu speaks to the themes of emergence, renewal, and blessings. As the equinoxes mark periods of balance and transition in the natural world, the Omumu Fast invites participants to consciously align themselves with these cycles through intentional sacrifice, self-reflection, and spiritual preparation.
How the Fast Works
Each Omumu Fast lasts for 21 consecutive days leading up to an equinox. Participants may join from anywhere in the world and are encouraged to undertake the fast in a way that is meaningful, practical, and sustainable for their individual circumstances.
A fast in this context does not necessarily mean abstaining from food alone. Instead, participants are encouraged to select between one and four things they will abstain from during the 21-day period. The purpose of the fast is to create space for greater awareness, discipline, and alignment.
Examples may include:
Abstaining from certain foods or drinks
Reducing unnecessary social media use
Refraining from habits that no longer serve one's growth
Limiting distractions and time-wasting activities
Practicing intentional silence during certain periods
Releasing patterns, behaviors, or attachments that hinder personal development
For participants who are healthy and have no underlying medical conditions, a form of food fasting that can be safely broken each day is also recommended. However, participation should always be adapted to individual health needs and circumstances.
Prior to each fast, OMS will provide additional guidance on recommended forms of fasting and best practices to help participants choose an approach that aligns with their goals and wellbeing.
Setting an Intention
An essential part of the Omumu Fast is the setting of intention.
Participants are encouraged to identify a personal intention centered around cleansing, renewal, growth, healing, preparation, gratitude, or the welcoming of new blessings into their lives. The abstinence chosen during the fast serves as a physical reminder of that intention and the commitment being made toward it.
The goal is not deprivation for its own sake, but conscious transformation.
Opening Community Gathering
Each Omumu Fast will begin with a live online community event.
During this gathering, participants will receive teachings on the purpose and benefits of fasting, intentional living, spiritual preparation, and the significance of the equinox period. There will also be opportunities for questions, discussion, and guidance to help participants begin the fast with clarity and confidence.
Closing Community Celebration
At the conclusion of each 21-day fast, the community will gather once again for a closing event.
This gathering will serve as a time of prayer, reflection, gratitude, and shared experiences. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss insights gained during the fast, celebrate personal milestones, and collectively mark the completion of the journey. In keeping with the spirit of renewal and abundance, the fast will conclude with a feast and celebration.
A New Community Tradition
The OMS Community 21 Days Omumu Fast is intended to become one of the cornerstone traditions of OMS community. Through this shared practice, participants from different parts of the world can come together in a spirit of discipline, reflection, and growth while remaining grounded in principles that encourage personal transformation and communal wellbeing.
As we approach the launch of the first Omumu Fast in 2027, additional details, resources, schedules, and participation guidelines will be made available.
We look forward to walking this journey with you.
OMS Community Ose-Oji Affirmation Ritual
The OMS Community Ose-Oji Affirmation Ritual is a yearly community spiritual practice dedicated to the intentional use of spoken words, positive declarations, and focused intention. Beginning in 2027, this practice will bring together members of OMS community and Odinani practitioners around the world in a shared eight-day period of affirmation, reflection, and spiritual alignment.
The ritual will take place annually during the first new moon of February and will span two complete Igbo market weeks (eight days). Participants may join from anywhere in the world and engage in the practice individually while remaining connected to the wider community through a shared intention and spiritual discipline.
The Philosophy Behind the Practice
In Igbo spirituality, words carry intention, direction, and influence. The OMS Community Ose-Oji Affirmation Ritual is built upon the understanding that what we repeatedly speak, focus upon, and nurture within our consciousness can shape how we experience and engage with our lives.
This practice encourages participants to consciously direct their thoughts and speech toward constructive outcomes rather than fear, limitation, or negativity. It is a period dedicated to blessing rather than cursing, building rather than diminishing, and creating rather than destroying.
The Eight-Day Practice
Participants will obtain a fresh pod of Ose Oji before the ritual begins.
Each day, at dawn, participants will place seven or eight seeds of Ose Oji in their mouth and spend time making intentional affirmations and declarations aligned with a single major goal, prayer, or area of focus.
The intention should remain consistent throughout the entire eight-day period.
Examples of intentions may include:
Personal growth and transformation
Health and wellbeing
Financial provision and stability
Wisdom and clarity
Protection and guidance
Family harmony
Success in a particular endeavor
Community wellbeing
Gratitude and thanksgiving
The purpose of maintaining one primary focus is to cultivate clarity, consistency, and depth of intention throughout the practice.
Positive Declarations Only
A foundational principle of this ritual is that affirmations must be constructive in nature.
Participants are encouraged to use their words to bless themselves, bless others, and affirm positive realities. The ritual is not intended to be used for invoking harm, cursing others, revenge, or directing negative intentions toward any person or circumstance.
The spirit of the practice is one of growth, healing, prosperity, protection, and alignment.
Spiritual Hygiene
Participants are strongly encouraged to consider spiritual hygiene before beginning the ritual.
This may include practices such as cleansing, reflection, intentional living, maintaining emotional balance, reducing unnecessary conflict, and cultivating a mindset aligned with the intention being pursued.
Additional guidance on spiritual preparation will be shared before each annual observance.
Community Participation
Although participants will perform the daily practice individually, the Ose-Oji Affirmation Ritual is fundamentally a community event. Members from different locations around the world will be engaging in the same spiritual discipline during the same eight-day period, creating a shared atmosphere of intention, encouragement, and collective growth.
Prior to the launch of the first observance in 2027, OMS will provide:
Recommended affirmation frameworks
Guidance on setting intentions
Spiritual preparation resources
Community participation guidelines
Additional teachings on the symbolism and use of Ose Oji within this practice
A New Annual Community Tradition
The OMS Community Ose-Oji Affirmation Ritual is envisioned as a yearly opportunity for members of the community to begin the year with focus, discipline, gratitude, and purposeful intention.
Through a dedication eight days to mindful speech and positive affirmation, participants are invited to strengthen their relationship with their words, align themselves with constructive possibilities, and consciously cultivate the realities they wish to nurture in their lives.
We look forward to beginning this journey together in 2027.
