2 Simple Ways to Remove Candle Wax from Your Candle Holder

If you have an Odinani altar, chances are you use candles as part of your spiritual practice. And if you place your candles on candle holders regularly, you’ve probably dealt with the buildup of wax on your candle holders. Over time, this can make them look messy and difficult to reuse. Luckily, there are two simple and effective methods to remove candle wax from your holders—using hot water or the freezer method.

The Hot Water Method 🔥💦

Heat helps to soften and loosen the wax, making it easy to wipe away. Here’s how to do it:

  • Hold the candle holder under running hot or very warm water and gently scrape off the wax as it softens.

  • Alternatively, immerse the holder in a bowl of very warm or hot water for up to a minute. Once the wax loosens, remove the holder and clean off the wax.

  • If you (re)use glass jar candles, you can pour hot water inside the container and leave it for a while. The wax will melt or float to the surface, making it easy to remove.

The Freezer Method ❄️🧊

Cold temperatures cause wax to harden and contract, making it easier to remove. Here’s how:

  • Place your candle holder inside the freezer for about an hour.

  • Once the wax is frozen, take out the holder and gently tap or scrape the wax—it should pop right off!
