Do Not Internalize Everything You Hear from Dibias (Trust Your Intuition)
In your Odinani journey, it’s natural to seek clarity, guidance, and wisdom, especially during times of spiritual uncertainty. Many turn to Dibias for answers, and rightly so. Dibias are vessels through which insights from the spirit world, ancestors, and the forces of nature are channeled and interpreted.
But there's something important that every spiritual seeker must understand: Not every word from a Dibia is absolute.
You are not meant to internalize everything you hear without question. Your Chi is your highest personal guide, and your intuition is the voice of that inner divinity. If something does not sit well with your spirit, pause, reflect, and most importantly—trust your Chi.
Dibia Interpretations Are Not Perfect
Even the most gifted Dibia is still human. When a Dibia interprets messages from Afa (divination), they are also using their own mind, understanding, and spiritual framework. That means:
Interpretations can be colored by personal experiences.
Sometimes, emotions or assumptions might interfere.
Messages may not be delivered in the exact way your Ora Mmuo (spiritual guides) intended.
If you’re not spiritually grounded, you might end up:
Doubting your Chi
Resenting your spiritual guides
Feeling overwhelmed by fear or confusion
That’s why discernment is very important. “A gbachaa Afa, a chikoo uche”—Deliberation must follow Afa divination session. Don’t surrender your peace of mind just because something was said during divination. If it destabilizes you and does not resonate, take a step back. Reconnect to your Chi and figure out a balanced way forward.
Odinani Is Not Dogma
One of the most beautiful aspects of Odinani is its flexibility. It is not a rigid system that demands blind obedience. It’s a living spiritual path guided by consciousness, willpower, and alignment.
Where there is a will, there is a way.
If the Dibia guiding you is overly dogmatic, harsh, or fear-driven, you have every right to seek another one. True spiritual guidance uplifts, illuminates, and brings clarity, not dread.
There is always a spiritual path forward, and it can be one that aligns with your destiny and your well-being at the same time.
Discernment Is Part of Spiritual Maturity
As you deepen your spiritual journey in Odinani, your ability to discern grows. This is a skill you must learn or develop with time. You sharpen it by:
Keeping your Nso (sacred taboos/personal boundaries and spiritual codes)
Committing to purity of mind, body, and soul
Practicing Igo Chi, Igo Mmuo, and Igo Ofo consistently
Reflecting on your dreams, feelings, and repeated spiritual signs
Developing your mind and intellect
Don’t take your gut feeling for granted. It is usually your Chi trying to steer you away from danger or confusion. If something feels heavy, forced, or misaligned, it probably is.
Your Chi will never give you problems beyond your capacity to handle.
So, when challenges arise (through divination or life), don’t panic. Try to:
Understand the issue at your current level of awareness
Do what you can with the tools and knowledge you have now
Leave the rest in the hands of your Chi
This is how you grow in your spiritual practice without losing your peace.
Your Chi Is Your Greatest Guide
Above all, never forget: there is no greater guide for you than your Chi.
Your Chi knows your journey from start to finish. It fights for your success, aligns you with your soul’s timing, and filters messages from other realms. Even the most well-meaning Dibia cannot override your Chi.
So, listen. Be open. Receive. But also filter everything through your spirit.
What doesn’t serve your path is not for you. Trust your Chi. Jisie ike.
