Eziowelle Town Overview

Eziowelle is an Igbo community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. It is a town that shares borders with Abatete, Abacha, Nimo, Abagana, Ogidi, and Umuoji.

Main Market Day

The main market day in Eziowelle is Eke. People buy and sell at the popular Eke Eziowelle market. Burial ceremonies are not allowed on Eke day. It is a special day set aside for trading, spiritual activities, and rest.


Major Festivals

  • Igba Egwueke: This festival is held in January. It marks the beginning of the farming season.

  • Erimede Festival: This is celebrated in December. The women of Eziowelle cook Ede (cocoyam) in large quantities, and there are community performances during the festival.

  • Ita-Oka Festival: This festival is held every year in November.

  • Afo-Aghammuo Festival: This festival takes place every year in March.

  • Ilo-Mmuo Festival: This is the New Yam Festival of Eziowelle. It is usually held in September.

Founder and History

The people of Eziowelle trace their roots to a man named Uzubi, who migrated from Izuogu in present-day Imo State. Uzubi was the father of Owelle. Owelle later had a son named Ezi. The name Eziowelle comes from the combination of the names Ezi and Owelle.

The main occupation of the indigenes of Eziowelle is farming.
