Atani Town Overview
Atani is an Igbo town located in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. Atani shares its borders with Ohita, Akili Ozizor, Ozubulu, and Umuzu, while the River Niger separates it from Asaba to the west.

Main Market Day
The main market in Atani is Afo-Atani, which holds its primary trading on Afo day. The town also has a smaller, secondary market known as Eke-Atani.
Major Festivals
Okpotu Atani: The annual New Yam Festival of Atani, held every September.
Ofala Festival: A celebration honoring the traditional ruler (Igwe) of Atani, held whenever announced by the traditional council.

Stealing food crops (especially yams) from a person’s house or farm
Murder
Eating pythons (Eke)
Harm or consumption of leopards (Agu)
Visiting the Onuko stream (Mmiri Onuko) by women who are pregnant or trying to conceive.
Harm or consumption of alligator lizards (Nnemukwa), which are sacred to the Atani people.
Founder and History
Atani consists of many distinct migrant groups from other parts of Igbo land and neighboring regions. One such settler group traces its origins across the Niger River back to the old Benin Kingdom. According to local history, two migrating brothers settled in the area, and their lineages went on to form the Umudike, Umuekeke, and Ibelenta villages.
