Osumenyi Town Overview
Osumenyi is an Igbo town located in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State. Osumenyi shares its borders with Ezinifite, Amichi, Ukpor, Akwaihedi, Unubi, Ekwulumili, Ebenator and Utuh.

Main Market Day
The main market in Osumenyi is Eke-Osu, which holds its primary trading on Eke day.
Major Festivals
Afiaolu Festival: This is the New Yam Festival of Osumenyi people. It is usually held between August and September.
Okpensi Festival: This is a major ancestral veneration ceremony in Osumenyi held just before the New Yam festival. It lasts two days, starting on Eke market day and ending on Oye (Orie). Families prepare or maintain mud altars planted with Ogilisi to represent their ancestors (Ndiichie) and make offerings to them. The festival celebrates family lineage, generational bonds, and brings relatives home for reunions.

Founder and History
According to oral history, Osumenyi traces its origins to a man named Okotu. His descendants founded several neighboring towns, including Obeledu, Ichida, Adazi and Amichi. One of Okotu’s grandsons, Ezeabom (son of Agbosu), later moved from near Amichi and settled in the area now called Osumenyi. When he and his people arrived at Ngoakpu (today’s Eke-Osu market), they met people already living there. Ezeabom married Otuogburu, a woman from one of the original families, and they had four sons, with the youngest son being Okonkwonta, better known by his title name, Ojilienyi. Ojilienyi was a famous hunter who earned the prestigious Ozo title by killing an elephant (Enyi). He became so renowned that the town was named after him and the rich, fertile land where it stands. The name Osumenyi combines Osu (fertile land) with Umenyi, a title honoring Ojilienyi, the town’s hero.
