Main Market Day
While Eke market day is a day of spiritual importance in Umunya, the main market day in Umunya is Afo, and the market itself is locally known as Afo-Umunya. Burial ceremonies are prohibited in Umunya on Afo day.
Major Festivals
Iwaji Umunya: This is the annual New Yam Festival of Umunya. It is celebrated on the first Eke market day in September.
Isigwu Festival: This is an annual celebration of the history and traditions of the Umunya people. It starts on an Eke market day near the end of July and brings the community together to honor their roots.

Founder and History
According to oral tradition, the people of Umunya trace their lineage to an ancestral founder named Nya, who established the town's initial settlement at present-day Umuebo. Through maternal descent, Nya is believed to be the grandson of Eri, a revered progenitor of Igbo people.
