Umuoji Town Overview
Umuoji is an Igbo town located in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State. It shares its borders with Abatete, Uke, Ogidi, Ojoto, Nkpor and Obosi.
Main Villages in Umuoji
Umuoji is divided into four quarters which contain a total of 23 villages:
Eziora Quarter — Abor, Umuobia, Ire, Amoji, Ekwulu and Urueze
Ifiteora Quarter — Ifite, Uruedeke, Umuoli and Umuazu
Dimechem Quarter — Agumaelum, Umuoma, Uruaneke, Dimboko, Umuechem, Urumkpu, Dianaokwu and Ideoma
Akala Quarter — Uruegbe, Akalaetiti, Aguma, Anogu and Abidi

Main Market Day
The main market days for trading in Umuoji are Eke and Nkwo. The most popular market in the community is locally known as Eke-Umuoji.
Major Festivals
Uzoiyi Festival: Celebrated annually in March, this festival marks the beginning of the new farming season and honors the Idemili goddess of Umuoji, who is believed to reside in the Ideakpulu stream.
Ili Ji Ofuu/Mbajekwe Festival: Celebrated between August and September, this is the annual New Yam Festival of Umuoji.
Oma-Nne Festival: A cultural celebration and ritual that honors and immortalizes the ancestral blood ties shared between Abatete, Umuoji, and Nkpor. It is held on a date determined by the Isi-Oma, the eldest woman in Umuoji.

Founder and History
The people of Umuoji trace their lineage to Okoli Otie, a migrant from Arochukwu in present-day Abia State. According to oral tradition, Okoli Otie fathered three sons, Ora (the founder of Umuoji), Ezeogu (the founder of Abatete), and Idike (the founder of Nkpor), making Umuoji, Abatete, and Nkpor ancestral sibling communities.
